This time of year is characterized by hot water temperatures, offering large amounts of feed to the fish daily, and high standing crops of fish in ponds. Due to these factors, the fish farmer must check the ponds daily for impending water quality problems such as low oxygen; avoid overfeeding; do not crowd fish more than is necessary during harvest and always harvest fish near cool- aerated fresh water; and control aquatic vegetation before it becomes a problem. Do not neglect your broodstock just because spawning season is over. A vacation should not be planned during this time of year. |
