Technical Abstract: Spore yields of various fungal entomopathogens were assessed on six different liquid media with varying carbon concentrations and C:N ratios. The fungal entomopathogens tested were two strains of Beauveria bassiana (GHA from Mycotech Corp., and coffee berry borer strain); two strains of Paecilomyces fumosoroseus (PFR-97 from W. R. Grace & Co., and Pakistan strain); Paecilomyces farinosus (from coffee berry borer) and Metarhizium anisopliae (ARSEF 4901). Highest spore concentrations were produced by all isolates tested in the medium with the highest carbon concentration (36 g/1) and the lowest C:N ratio (10:1). The M. anisopliae strain tested was a poor sporulator in liquid culture. Additional experiments will be conducted to test media variations in an attempt to increase M. anisopliae yields, and to study dessication tolerance in spores produced in these different media.
