Interpretive Summary: Biological control helps reduce costs by reducing the need for chemical pesticides and also helps reduce harmful residues which enchances food safety. Conopid flies are parasites of other insects, primarily bees and wasps, and have not been explored extensively for biocontrol use. This paper reports for the first time that a conopid, Stylogaster biannulata, from eastern North America parasitizes crickets (Gryllus spp.). In addition, the immature stages of the fly are described. This information will be used by scientists, IPM managers, and regulatory personnel charged with identifying insects.

Technical Abstract: The egg and puparium of Stylogaster biannulata (Say) (Diptera: Conopidae) are described and illustrated in detail based on examination by scanning electron microscopy. This species was reared from Gryllus rubens Scudder in Florida, a new host record. Previous literature is reviewed in light of this new data.
