Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The escalation of Bemisia tabaci outbreaks in frequency, destructive intensity, and numbers of locations throughout the world have focused much attention on broad aspects of Bemisia spp. biology and management. Explanations for the upsurge in B. tabaci outbreaks have often centered on failures of management, in particular as related to the disruptions in control brought about by excessive insecticide use. Although other element of B. tabaci population dynamics are clearly recognized, there has been no synthesis of the fundamental factors that contribute to B. tabaci outbreaks.
