Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Nymphal and adult weights, developmental rates, fecundity and egg viability were examined for a laboratory-reared (lab) colony of Podisus maculiventris on two artificial diets and a natural host. We also examined adult weight, developmental rates and fecundity of an F1 field-collected (field) colony of P. maculiventris on one of the artificial diets and on T. ni larvae. Whole egg in one artificial diet improved developmental rate and fecundity but did not significantly increase adult weight. On one diet, the field- colony performed better, in all measured parameters, than the lab-colony, and acquired the same adult weight as those fed on a natural host. However, both lab- and field-colonies had significantly lower fecundity and egg viability on the artificial diets than on a natural host.
