Technical Abstract: Soybean is produced for the protein and oil in the seed. The seed meal, containing the protein, is more valuable than the oil in a given volume of soybean. Increasing protein concentration of soybean meal would further increase the value of soybean. C1944 and C1945 are two germplasm lines that average 48.6% seed protein, considerably above the 41% seed protein of commercially grown cultivars. Seed oil of C1944 and C1945 average 18.6%, somewhat lower than the 20.5% seed oil of commercially grown cultivars. These germplasm releases will be useful as parental lines for increasing seed protein while minimizing reductions in seed oil of soybean.
