Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Sub-Commission C of the International Society of Soil Science identified two major barriers to effective communication and exchange of scientific information among professionals dealing with soil erosion assessment and conservation implementation. These barriers are the different methods and terms used by researchers and practioners in this complex multi-disciplinary arena. This publication is essentially a glossary of terms, but goes into more detail than just a listing of terms with definitions. Goals of the publication were to create a better understanding of commonly used terms, assist in clarifying erosion and conservation knowledge, and provide an international point of view emphasizing local experiences and cultivation systems. This publication successfully meets these objectives and will increase effective communication and scientific information among professionals working with soil erosion assessment and conservation implementation around the world.
