Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Reticuloendotheliosis (RE) designates a group of pathologic conditions induced by infection with RE virus, a retrovirus. The prevalence of infection in chickens and turkeys appears to be on the increase, however, disease is still rare. Issues of concern include differential diagnosis, export of breeder progeny, vaccine quality control, vertical transmission, and others. As RE is an economic problem in several other countries, surveillance for infection and development of programs for eradication may be warranted so that losses may be controlled, should this disease ever become a problem in the United States.
