Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Helicobacter pylori is associated with human gastric ulcers and gastric cancer and has been detected in water, but not in foods. Arcobacter spp. have been described in cases of livestock abortion and in human enteritis. Arcobacter spp. have been found in water, cattle, swine, poultry, and in ground pork products. Herein we review the evidence for considering Helicobacter spp. and Arcobacter spp., especially A. butzleri, as emerging foodborne pathogens.
