Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 9/11/1997 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: Thermochemical oxidation of starch and maltodextrins were investigated to maximize carboxyl and carbonyl content, to increase water solubility and to give value-added products with new and novel properties. Thermochemical processes evaluated were jet cooking-drum drying, extrusion-drum drying, drum drying and self-induced exothermal initiation. Data will be presented to show product properties and analysis. Potential end-use applications will be presented in the areas of: 1) sequestration of calcium, manganese and iron; 2) set retardation and water reduction in concrete admixes; 3) extenders in phenol-formaldehyde adhesives for plywood; and 4) builders for detergents. Other potential applications being researched are micronutrient chelators, textile sizers, metal and rust cleaners and cotton mercerizers. |
