A genetic map with sufficient markers is not yet available. For construction of a map with higher density we identified Amplified Fragment Length Polymorphic (AFLP) markers. The mapping population consisted of sixty-six backcross progenies derived from MR-1 (a breeding line with multiple disease resistance) and Ananas Yokneam (AY, an Israeli landrace susceptible to many diseases) with AY as recurrent parents. Only markers present in MR-1 were included in the map. Initial screening of parents identified 426 markers, but only 221 (together with RAPD markers) were scored in the progeny. Ninety percent of the markers fell into 18 linkage groups with 2-27 markers in each group using a lod score of 4 and maximum theta of 0.25. The map covers over 2000 cM. Several markers linked to Fom-2, a gene for resistance to Fusarium wilt were identified. |
