Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: We reported the nucleotide sequence of the 9-kb BamHI fragment E of serotype 1 Marek's disease virus (MDV) GA strain genome. The analysis revealed six complete and two partial open reading frames (ORFs). Most ORFs exhibited strong amino acid sequence homology to the gene products of alphaherpesviruses, herpes simplex virus (HSV), and were arranged collinear with the prototype sequence of HSV in the range of the UL29 to UL36 genes. Some of the DNA fragments were cloned into pATH vectors to express trpE fusion proteins. Antiserum were developed by inoculating rabbits with the trpE fusion proteins. The expressions of these genes in the chicken embryo fibroblast cells (CEF) infected with MDV GA strain were identified by immunoprecipitation or Northern hybridization analysis. The potential function of these gene products were discussed.
