Interpretive Summary: Comprehensive knowledge of fungi is needed to make accurate plant regulatory decisions, to preserve regions of the world with the highest level of species diversity, and to plan systematic research. This paper presents one of the few checklists of fungi in a tropical country. The list includes 625 taxa in all groups of fungi. An account of the fungi of French Guiana will be used by scientists seeking to locate and identify fungi from tropical regions as well as by conservationists to demonstrate the diversity and importance of fungi in biologically unexplored regions of the world.

Technical Abstract: A preliminary list of the fungi known from French Guiana is presented. The list is drawn from herbarium specimens and from literature citations. 625 taxa are listed with herbarium references, collecting and some bibliographic information. Two new combinations are introduced: Galerina pectinata (Saccardo) Courtec. and Cotylidia spectabilis (Leveille)Courtec.
