Technical Abstract: This book chapter provides comprehensive descriptions of the 6 species assigned to the yeastlike genus Protomyces. All species of Protomyces are plant pathogens and are found worldwide. Species of Protomyces are used in the biocontrol of such pest plants as the giant ragweed. In addition to the descriptions, this chapter describes laboratory methods for species identification.
