Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: SoyBase is an ACE-type database with hypertext links between classes. SoyBase combines data from many laboratories, the literature and other databases (GRIN, PVP, AGRICOLA, BIOSIS, Genbank) into a central location. Information is displayed via an easy to learn graphical interface where the user clicks on items to open windows which contain the requested information. SoyBase currently contains data covering 6 map collections with over 600 molecular and morphological markers, 462 DNA sequence records with pointers to Genbank, 30594 germplasm records with data from the GRIN and PVP databases, 315 metabolic pathways, including clickable diagrams covering 524 enzymes and 444 metabolites, 234 phenotypic traits, 34 QTL studies, 15 diseases of soybean, 37 nodulins, and 6 vegetative storage proteins. In addition to these biological data, SoyBase contains more than 18000 literature references and the names and addresses for more than 250 soybean researchers and breeders. SoyBase can be accessed at the National Agriculture Library through the WWW at http://probe.nalusda.gov:8000/.
