Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: An avian leukosis virus (ALV) was isolated from several broiler breeders that had a history of myelocytomatosis. Virological and serological assays suggest that the virus is not a subgroup A ALV, as antibodies to subgroups A, B, C, D or E ALV failed to neutralize the virus. However, the newly isolated ALV was neutralized by homologous antibodies as well as by antibodies to the prototype of subgroup J ALV, HPRS-103, a novel subgroup of ALV that has recently been described in broiler breeders in the United Kingdom. The data indicate the isolation of an ALV related to subgroup J ALV from broiler breeder flocks in the United States.
