Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: NRSP-6 is the US genebank for the potato crop. The collection grew in 1995 due to expeditions to Guatemala, Mexico, and the southwest USA. Dr. Spooner initiated study of one of the important taxonomic questions in potato - the brevicaule complex. We distributed germplasm to cooperators in 20 US states and 27 foreign countries. Ninety-four 2,000-seed samples of increased seedlots from Chile and Argentina expeditions were repatriated. Many evaluation projects progressed in 1995. Such research gives cooperators a reason to use NRSP-6 stocks, raises the quality and accessibility of these stocks, and keeps NRSP-6 staff in touch with the needs of its clientele. Collaboration with other world genebanks through APIC to expand resources available to US scientists continued. NRSP-6 stocks are regular constituents of newly released potato cultivars, as was the case again this year. In 1995, NRSP-6 personnel published 18 articles. Our stocks were involved in an additional 113 scientific publications documented for 1995.
