Interpretive Summary: Most horticultural crops are highly perishable after harvest. Many factors affect postharvest quality and storage life of horticultural commodities. Various preharvest factors including cultural practices and environmental factors influence postharvest quality. This paper is an introduction of a colloquium which evaluates the impact of a wide spectrum of preharvest factors on the ultimate quality of horticultural products at the time of consumption. Information provided in this paper will allow a deeper understanding of how to manipulate various preharvest factors to better maintain the quality of horticultural commodities, thereby, is beneficial to the produce industry and consumers.
