Technical Abstract: Degradation of soil and water resources by salinization are serious, inter-related problems prevalent throughout the irrigated lands of the world. This paper discusses the nature and extent of these problems and presents irrigation and drainage management principles and practices for controlling them. Special emphasis is given to integrated strategies of water management to maximize the beneficial use of multiple water supplies including drainage waters, conserve water and sustain the viability of irrigated agriculture.
