Publication Type: Abstract Only Publication Acceptance Date: 11/1/1995 Publication Date: N/A Citation: N/A Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: The rate of ammonium released from soil submitted to weak acid hydrolysis (1M-HC1) decreased suddenly after 2 to 4 hours. The level of ammonium in the hydrolyzate was recorded after 4 hours, and correlated to the active pool of the model NCSOIL. The model's active pool (Pool I plus Pool II) was computed by calibration of NCSOIL against the cumulative release of CO2 and inorganic nitrogen obtained by the soil incubation technique of Stanford and Smith. Pool I which represents the soil biomass, was determined by the fumigation extraction procedure. The data were obtained from soils sampled at the Cedar Creek Natural History Area which documents the increase of soil organic matter during prairie regeneration after intensive cultivation. |
