Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The Tuberculin Interest Group (TIG) serves as a forum for discussion of tuberculin production, standardization, use, and research, and to facilitate international collaborations and sharing of information. Approximately 30 people attended the TIG meeting, representing at least 10 countries including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Denmark, Ireland, Mexico, ,The Netherlands, Portugal, Tunisia, and the United States of America. The informal discussion included the following topics: list of countries producing tuberculin; tuberculin production (international standards, protein and potency testing techniques and standardization, and Quality Control); skin testing (timing and regulations regarding retesting, desensitization, injection site by species, amount/concentration of tuberculin used, and chart for comparative cervical test results); TIG member mailing/phone list; and future TIG meetings. It was agreed that further review and standardization of tuberculin production, Quality Control techniques, and use in the field would be very beneficial. A written proposal was presented suggesting a North and South American Regional Laboratory Network of bovine tuberculin PPD producers and Control Laboratories, to facilitate collaborative research and standardization efforts.
