Technical Abstract: This chapter presents a broad overview of the biology and impact of stored-product insects, concentrating primarily on grains and grain products. It outlines the current methods for pest management available to the stored-products manager. Mite pests, although not insects, are discussed because of their similarity to insects regarding impact and management consideration. The impact of insects on stored food and reports on the biology, prevention, suppression and control of storage insects are discussed. The discussion gives specific and useful information on survey and detection and on cultural, physical, chemical and integrated biological control methods. The importance of behavioral and genetic manipulation, plant resistance, natural products and integrated pest management are discussed.
