Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Hibiscus is a large, diverse, and economically important genus because of its industrial, ornamental, and medicinal properties. Genetic diversity within this genus offers breeders opportunities to develop new and improved cultivars through controlled hybridization. However, challenges such as asynchronous flowering can impede these efforts. Therefore, a pollen viability study of 14 Hibiscus genotypes was conducted to determine the optimal temperature (0, 4, 22, -20, or -80 °C) and duration (0, 4, 6, or 8 weeks) for the ideal storage conditions of hibiscus pollen grains. Results from different Hibiscus genotypes on the viability of fresh and stored pollen grains were presented and discussed.
