Interpretive Summary: There is an ongoing need for microbial biopesticide research and development to combat invasive insect pests. Many Chromobacterium species have been recently discovered and found to be insecticidal against multiple insect orders. Here, the complete genome of a new environmental isolate, Chromobacterium sp. strain Ocala, was sequenced. Comparisons with published Chromobacterium genomes show C. sp Ocala is distinct from known Chromobacterium species. The sequence is provided as a public resource tool for future research in understanding Chromobacterium and will be used by scientists and the biocontrol industry.

Technical Abstract: Chromobacterium sp. strain Ocala (C.sp_O, syn. IIBBL 290-4) was isolated from water and sediment collected from a lake in the Ocala National Forest, Florida, USA. We describe the isolation, sequencing, and phylogeny of this unique Chromobacterium strain. The research will support understanding of the Chromobacterium genus.
