Interpretive Summary: Stripe rust has a negative impact on wheat quality and yield. More information is needed on the effectiveness of fungicides on combating stripe rust, particularly in dryland wheat farming. This study assessed the impact of fungicide treatments on wheat yield and stripe rust severity at a dryland wheat study site in Adams, OR. Key factors associated with wheat productivity and quality were examined, including wheat rust progression and grain weight. Multispectral imagery was taken on three occassions during the growing season to evaluate the relationship between rust progression and the Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI). The rate of fungicide application did not significantly impact the test weight, protein, NDVI, or the area under the disease progress curve.

Technical Abstract: A field experiment was conducted in 2025 at the Oregon State University Columbia Basin Agricultural Research Center in Adams, OR, to evaluate QuiltXcel fungicide for stripe rust control in winter wheat. A stripe rust–susceptible (UI Magic CL+) and a tolerant (Mallory CL+) cultivar were grown under no-till conditions. Three QuiltXcel rates and a non-treated control were applied at Feekes 8. Crop response was assessed using UAS-derived NDVI and yield components at maturity. All fungicide treatments significantly increased grain yield relative to the control, with no yield differences among rates. Fungicide rate did not affect test weight, protein, NDVI, or AUDPC.
