Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: A recent comprehensive systematic review published in this journal evaluated whether reducing or modifying saturated fat intake modifies plasma cholesterol concentration, mortality and cardiovascular event risk.(1) On its heels appeared the 2025 Dietary Guidelines for Americans that by nature touched on the topic of saturated fat.(2) These two very different documents have been swept into the seemingly never ending controversy about the relationship between dietary saturated fat and public heath recommendations intended to promote cardiovascular health throughout the lifespan.
