Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Description: The current dataset was collected for an experiment investigating the impacts of replacing steam-flaked corn with malted barley in feedlot ration on dry matter intake and in vivo and in vitro fermentation characteristics. Isoenergetic and iso nitrogenous rations were formulated to include either 0%, 10%, 20%, or 30% of diet dry matter as malted barley. The malted barley inclusion mainly displaced steam-flaked corn in the rations. The uploaded excel file has 5 sheets. The first titled "READ_ME" lists the remaining sheets names, their column names, and provides a detailed description of what each column represents. The "in vivo data" sheet contains ruminal pH, ammonia, D- and L-Lactate, and the volatile fatty acid profile collected from cannulated steers that were fed different treatment diets. The "DMI" sheet provides the average dry matter intake for each steer during each experimental period. The "in vitro data" sheet provides information collected from the in vitro gas production trial. Finally, the "gas production" sheet provides the in vitro gas production data collected from each fermentation vessel at 0.25-hour intervals.
