Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Mastitis is caused by a bacterial infection of the mammary tissue. Most previous research on mastitis in livestock has focused on dairy animals, but the disease is also common in meat animal species. This popular press article describes different forms of mastitis and their impacts on economic returns in the sheep industry. Data from sheep industry surveys as well as experiments conducted by the author are summarized.
