Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Impatiens necrotic spot virus (INSV) is a major concern for lettuce produced in the Salinas Valley of California and is transmitted by the western flower thrips, Frankliniella occidentalis. The presentation will provide an update on the research that was conducted during the 2024 lettuce season. Topics will cover 1) regional monitoring of thrips populations in the Salinas Valley, 2) field surveys to identify abundance and distribution of thrips among various crops and weedy species, 3) INSV susceptibility testing of cover crops, and 4) studies to understand the timing of INSV and Pythium uncinulatum co-infections. The meeting and presentation is relevant for stakeholders involved in vegetable production on the Central Coast of CA.
