Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Many new pesticides are not approved for use on nursery crops because the costs for safety and efficacy testing outweigh the profit for the companies that make them. The IR-4 Project helps by providing federal funding to cover testing costs so that new pesticides can be used on nursery crops. The largest ornamentals IR-4 program in the nation is in Oregon, yet western growers often do not respond to surveys asking about which insects, weeds, and diseases are the most difficult to control. Western growers with unmet pest management needs are encouraged to fill out the biennial IR-4 Grower & Extension Survey.
