Interpretive Summary: Mycoplasma gallisepticum is a pathogen that causes significant economic losses in poultry production. The M. gallisepticum a5969 strain was used in much of the early research of this organism and the disease that it causes. Genomic sequencing was performed to understand the genetic makeup of this important historical strain. The results of this work will allow for comparison between older historical research and the current research being performed with newly identified strains, aiding in making older research relevant to current research.

Technical Abstract: Mycoplasma gallisepticum strain A5969 is one of the earliest identified and studied avian mycoplasma strains, valued for its ease of growth and production of uniformly sized colonies. Here we report the genomic sequence of the A5969 strain.
