DOI: https://doi.org/10.1353/nhs.2024.a946740 Interpretive Summary: Research on the Jones Ranch in the Truckee Meadows of Reno, Nevada was conducted in the late 1980's. It provides a look at the style of ranch life for this pioneer family, and is representative of the ranch and farms and their owners, in the vicinity at the time. With encroaching building and population of the area into the 21st century, it is important to not forget the historical character and foundation of these early settlers. Technical Abstract: Historical narrative of an early ranching family over 100 years ago, with their start in the Virginia City/Gold Hill area, and ultimately re-locating to the Jones Ranch in the Truckee Meadows of Reno, Nevada. Descriptions of family members are combined with comments of the ranch’s growth and changes over the years. There are mentions of various agricultural and livestock products raised on their lands, and in general the family did whatever was needed to be done to stay operational. Their goal was to provide a style of life for their families and maintain a profitable livelihood from their ranching endeavors. In addition to county deed records, county tax records and historical references, there are phone call and written note quotes from the previous owners of the ranch. |
