Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This presentation reviewed the current body of scientific evidence on the ability of front of pack labels (on food packages) to impact consumer behavior. There are currently many gaps in the nutrition science literature regarding the interplay between consumer education and consumer behavior. Consumer food purchases depend on many factors, including taste, affordability, culture, access, education, food security, health status, and more. All front of pack labeling schemes, including those used in Mexico, Canada, Chile, and the United States, have limitations in communicating this information to consumers, and more dedicated research is needed.
