Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The U.S. is experiencing a major outbreak of H5N1 highly pathogenic avian influenza that has resulted in a loss of over 50 million chickens and turkeys from disease or as part of the control efforts. The virus has also spread to Africa, Asia, Europe, and South America and is a worldwide threat. Newcastle disease virus is another important transboundary disease that is found on almost every continent. The subcommittee report provides a world-wide overview of reported outbreaks of both infections that has been reported to WOHA, FAO, or other credible sources. An overview of research at the Southeast Poultry Research on these diseases will also be reported.
