DOI: https://doi.org/10.3201/eid3001.231164 Interpretive Summary: This report demonstrates the potential for multiple types of mpox virus to spread through sexual transmission. Technical Abstract: We report the first identified cases of clade I-associated MPXV infections linked to sexual contact in Kwango Province, Democratic Republic of the Congo. Case investigation and sample sequencing confirmed four MPXV infections within the same transmission chain. This demonstrates that MPXV transmission via sexual contact extends beyond clade IIb MPXV. |
