Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Dr. Billy J. Barfield, Regents Service Professor of Biosystems and Agricultural Engineering, retired after a distinguished career encompassing 35 years between his time at the University of Kentucky and Oklahoma State University. Bill was a productive researcher, teacher, and extension educator in hydrology, sediment control, stormwater management, and manufacturing extension and technology transfer. The impact he had on the agricultural engineering profession was profound having been recognized with numerous international awards. In addition, Bill was a visionary in the world of water resources research and recognized the value of collaborative research and partnerships. Near the end of career, Bill would speak of creating a Center of Excellence for Water Research in partnership between Oklahoma State University and the USDA-ARS Agroclimate and Hydraulic Engineering Research Unit in Stillwater, OK. Today, nearly 20 years later, the USDA-ARS Oklahoma and Central Plains Agricultural Research Center was created bringing three research units across Oklahoma together in a coordinated research effort among multidisciplinary researchers. These research units collaborative network extends to academic institutions, federal and state agencies, and the international scientific community. This presentation will touch on Bill Barfield’s research vision of the past now realized and going beyond. USDA is an equal opportunity provider and employer.
