Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The genus Diatraea, commonly known as sugarcane borers, cause extensive damage to sugarcane, corn, rice, and sorghum in the Western Hemisphere. Ten species are known to occur in Guatemala. The history of species descriptions and their identity based on internal characteristics are reviewed. A key is provided for their identification in Guatemala.
