Many are serious pests and feed on crops destroying valuable plants costing millions of dollars annually. Others are important biological control agents that can be used to control unwanted and invasive weeds. This work documents flea beetles of a previously poorly classified genera. It clarifies their classification and describes a genus and species new to science from India. All the genera are described and illustrated. The study will be useful to biological control workers, evolutionary biologists, ecologists, and anyone interested in plant feeding beetles. Technical Abstract: Abstract. The Oriental flea beetle genera (Coleoptera, Chrysomelidae, Galerucinae, Alticini) with subparallel intercoxal ridges on the first abdominal ventrite are revised. Sahyadrialtica stephaniae, new genus & new species from south India are described. The following new synonyms are proposed: Dentilabrua Medvedev, 2009, new synonym (=Neorthana Medvedev, 1996), Lankanella Kimoto, 2000, new synonym (=Parategyrius Kimoto & Gressitt, 1966), Lankaphthona Medvedev, 2001, new synonym (=Parategyrius Kimoto & Gressitt, 1966) and Neorthella Medvedev, 2010, new synonym (=Lanka Maulik, 1926) . New combinations due to the new and previously published synonyms are proposed and checklist of species is provided. |
