Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Mites of the family Tenuipalpidae (Trombidiformes: Tetranychoidea) are commonly known as flat mites and are widespread around the world. This mite family includes many pest species. The research is aimed at surveying tenuipalpid mites, including distribution and host associations, in the southern Italy and updating the Italian checklist for this taxon. The sampling was carried out in the Apulian territories (southern Italy), collecting plant materials from various Mediterranean tree species. The mites were slide-mounted in Hoyer’s medium and identified using the Low Temperature Scanning Electron Microscopic (LT-SEM), phase contrast and differential interference contrast (DIC) microscopy techniques.
