Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: This presentation will describe the development of Carbon Nanotube (CNT) reinforced polymer composites for improved energy dissipation under static and dynamic loads. We have developed multifunctional Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) composites for improved physical properties. Details of the attached growth of carbon nanotubes on glass fibers and preparation of multilayered CNT-GFRP composites will be discussed. It was concluded that the attached growth of CNTs on glass fabric improves energy dissipation in CNT based polymer composites. This presentation will also include an overview of CNT morphology control, CNT-composite microstructures, and their mechanical properties.
