Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Extensive research with large samples has been conducted in regard to Chinese children's physical activity, cardiovascular fitness and obesity. The primary focus of the research was to inform the design of interventions to prevent the increasing problem of pediatric obesity in China. This paper reviews that research and calls for innovative approaches to the design of child obesity prevention and physical activity promotion programs. Programs must individualize procedures to meet the needs of specific children (based on data); and what constitutes "fun" in physical activity programs must be more clearly understood and manipulated to maximize the dose of physical activity received over longer periods of time. Augmented reality activity promoting games, e.g. Pokémon Go, may provide a model for research and development in this pursuit.
