DOI: https://doi.org/10.1128/genomeA.00063-18 Interpretive Summary: Virulent strains of Newcastle disease virus cause significant disease in non-vaccinated and in poorly vaccinated poultry. The circulation of these viruses across the globe represent a constant threat to U.S. poultry industries. Newcastle disease is often enhanced by mixed infections with other viruses and by infections with opportunistic bacteria. Here we describe the presence of an previously unreported bacteria species in avian samples from Nigeriathat were infected with virulent Newcastle Disease viruses. These bacterial species have multiple antibiotic resistance genes. Technical Abstract: Here, we present the draft genome sequences of five multidrug-resistant novel Ochrobactrum spp. strains isolated from chickens from Nigeria, in 2009. |
