Reveille Russet: An early, widely adapted, high-count-carton russet for the fresh market. American Journal of Potato Research. 95(1):79-86. https://doi.org/10.1007/s12230-017-9620-2. DOI: https://doi.org/10.1007/s12230-017-9620-2 Interpretive Summary: Reveille Russet is a russeted potato variety with white flesh in the oblong tubers. It matures medium-early similar to Russet Norkotah, a widely grown early maturing variety. It produces more total yield than Russet Norkotah and has a higher marketable yield (tubers from 4-18 oz.) of 77% compared to Russet Norkotah at 69% when grown in Texas trials. A distinguishing characteristic is that if tubers are skinned or wounded during harvest and handling, the wound heals a light brown color compared to Russet Norkotah which usually turns much darker. It is a fresh market variety intended for tablestock use. Technical Abstract: Reveille Russet (ATX91137-1Ru) is a uniform, medium-early, high yielding, high pack-out, fresh market russet cultivar, with wide adaptability, released by Texas A&M AgriLife Research in 2015. It resulted from a cross of A81473-2(') and A83343-12('). Reveille Russet produces attractive, oblong tubers, with medium russeting, white flesh and excellent culinary qualities. It has a lower incidence of internal defects and a higher percentage of count-carton-size tubers than Russet Norkotah, especially in the 60-count range. Reveille Russet is resistant to hollow heart, second growth and blackspot bruise. It also stores longer and tends to wound-heal a lighter brown color upon harvest/ handling skinning than Russet Norkotah. |
