Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: The cyst nematodes comprise a group of sedentary endoparasitic nematodes that impact a wide range of crops in both tropical and temperate regions of the world. This chapter updates the taxonomy and phylogeny of this group and describes the nuclear protein coding, ribosomal, and mitochondrial sequences commonly used to determine relationships among cyst nematode species. An overview of cyst nematode phylogenies is given in historical context, presented in separate subgroupings within the Heteroderinae, Punctoderinae, and Globodera. Phylogenetic trees are presented for several molecular markers.
