Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Microbiome referrers to a community of microorganisms that live in a certain environment, and research in this area has only recently become a topic of interest. In human research trials, differences in the microbial community were found between people with a healthy digestive system and patients that suffered from digestive disorders such as leaky gut syndrome or IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome). Interestingly, sufferers became healthy when the microbes of their digestive system were replaced with microbes of a healthy individual’s digestive system. The results from human research trials have caught the attention of animal scientists who see this area of research for its potential use in the improvement of production, animal health, and growth.
