Interpretive Summary: The bee genus Pachyanthidium is widespread but uncommon across all of Africa south of the Sahara. This group of resin bees has not been studied for over thirty years. A new species is described, four formerly recognized species are synonymized, and an illustrated key to distinguish the sixteen species is provided. The plants visited by these pollinators are listed.

Technical Abstract: The Afrotropical species of Pachyanthidium Friese are revised. Sixteen species are recognized in four subgenera, including one new species, Pachyanthidium (Trichanthidium) anoplos sp. n. and one species, Pachyanthidium (Trichanthidium) cucullatum (Friese), removed from synonymy as a valid species. Pachyanthidium minutulum Pasteels is synonymised with Pachyanthidium (Trichanthidiodes) semiluteum Pasteels, Anthidium africanum Smith with P. (P.) bicolor (Lepeletier), Pachyanthidium cordatum swellemdamense Mavromoustakis with Pachyanthidium (P.) cordatum (Smith), and Anthidium cordatum var. salamense Friese 1931 with Pachyanthidium (P.) salamense (Friese 1915). A key for the identification of the species is given.
