Interpretive Summary: Many species of soldier flies are beneficial to agriculture in that their larvae help to decompose plant material, dung, and decaying animal matter, although a few species are known to attack living plants, such as grass roots. This publication describes a new species of soldier flies from Mexico with identification aids distinguish to it from previously known species and illustrations of diagnostic features. Identification characters are also given for two closely related genera. This work will enable scientists, quarantine workers such as those in APHIS, and others concerned with flies to identify and correctly name these insects.

Technical Abstract: A new species of Paraberismyia Woodley, P. imitator, n. sp., is described from Chiapas, Mexico. The new species is compared to previously described species and diagnostic notes are presented regarding separation of Paraberismyia from Berismyia Giglio-Tos.
