Technical Abstract: This agricultural extension article describes the basis for healthy soils supporting healthy forages, and ultimately healthy beef herds for the Carolinas. A soil scientist at USDA-Agricultural Research Service in Raleigh NC summarized the factors used by USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service to assess pasture condition. Further description is given for how soil health is defined and assessed.
