Uses and potential of DNA technologies in forage, turf, and rangeland crop seed production. Meeting Abstract. Interpretive Summary: Technical Abstract: DNA markers are used at a greater frequency in seed production. It is beneficial for seed producers to understand how the DNA markers can be used and some of their limitations. These markers have been used to detect contaminants in seed lots of annual ryegrass, thus allowing seed lots to be shipped internationally. They are also used in differentiating cultivars and breeding lines for identification purposes, and for showing how closely or distantly related groups of cultivars are. Finally, we use DNA markers to detect hybrids in complex pedigrees and complex mating systems. |
