Interpretive Summary:

Technical Abstract: Attract-and-kill devices, otherwise known as bait stations, are being developed and tested as alternatives to broadcast pesticide application for control of a number of pest insects. With the development of female-targeted food-based synthetic attractants for tephritid fruit flies, a number of bait stations have been developed and tested for fruit fly population suppression. We conducted small-scale field tests in guava, a preferred host for the Caribbean fruit fly, Anastrepha suspensa, to evaluate several types of bait stations. Results of these studies will be presented.
